Compassion Dental Celebrates 7 Years of Service to Northern Nevada

Updated: Nov 4, 2021

Santa visited Compassion Dental to wish us a Happy Anniversary and a Merry Christmas!

Our mission and ministry was first conceived by Chris Ormsby in 2009, after recognizing the severe lack of dental care in Northern Nevada. With the help of co-founder Shari Byrnes, a nationally certified dental assistant, we officially opened our doors on December 7th, 2013. We operated with only three dentists, three dental hygienists, two dental assistants, and four non-dental volunteers for the first 6 months after opening. Since then, we have grown to twelve dentists, four dental hygienists, seven dental assistants, and fifty-four non-dental volunteers. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we have proudly given over $800,000 in dental care to over 500 Northern Nevada adults since opening in 2013.

Today, December 7th, 2020, is our 7th anniversary. In the bible, the number 7 is considered a sacred number, with over 700 appearances between Genesis and Revelations. Some of the connotations of the number 7 include: perfection, healing, forgiveness, and fulfilled promises, all of which we strive for in our ministry to reflect the love and hope of Jesus Christ in all we do.

“And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.” – Psalm 12:6 NIV

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.’” – Matthew 18:21-22 NIV

“Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams' horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in’…When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.” – Joshua 6:1-5, 20 NIV

Going forward into 2021, Compassion Dental hopes to continue offering healing and forgiveness to those in need through our promise of free compassionate dental care for each of our patients. Here’s to another 7 years of service!

We have only been able to serve Northern Nevada for 7 years thanks to our wonderful volunteers and donors, and will only be able to continue doing so with your help!
